The Church takes all complaints of abuse seriously.

Complaints of sexual abuse against church personnel in New Zealand are referred to us. Increased publicity can be the catalyst for people to come forward. We encourage anyone who has been abused by a priest or religious to contact us, for your story to be heard and your complaint to be investigated.

Alternately you may choose to go directly to the Police, and the Church will support anyone who requires assistance to do this.

Telling your whole story can be very traumatic and is not necessary at this early stage. Please provide us with the information requested below so we can confirm if it is the role of our office to investigate the complaint, or whether it should be referred to a diocese or religious congregation to respond.

You have the right to report your complaint to the NZ Police at any stage. If your complaint identifies a level of risk to other people it may be necessary for us to report this to the Police.
